Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has opened up about how heavy spending on luxury cars changed his approach to money, saying he eventually realised that the vehicles were costing him significant amounts that could have been invested elsewhere.
The musician disclosed that at one point he owned about seven cars at the same time, including an S5, 8 Series and 7 Series.
“I had about seven cars in the house at a time. I had an S5, I had 8 Series, 7 Series. I had different cars,” he said.
According to Ofori Amponsah, his attitude towards expensive cars changed after he began comparing how much he paid for them with the significantly lower amounts they fetched when he later sold them.
He explained that buying a car for about $75,000 could result in a substantial loss in value after several years, prompting him to rethink how he spent his money.
The musician said he eventually came to the realisation that the money poured into luxury vehicles could instead have been invested in businesses and other ventures capable of generating long-term returns.
Reflecting on the spending habits of people in the entertainment industry, he admitted that splashing money on cars is a common practice among celebrities.
“You see the stupid thing that we do,” he remarked.
Ofori Amponsah said his shift towards property and farming was also shaped by his upbringing.
He explained that his father was a businessman who owned farms, while his mother was a teacher, giving him an early connection to farming and property.
“My mum was a teacher. My dad was a businessman and so my dad had farms and everything. So, when people were spending vacations in Accra, we’ll be spending time on my farm. I mean I’m a farm boy,” he said.
The ‘Otoolege’ hitmaker added that farming remains an important part of his life, revealing that the properties he currently owns are also linked to farming.
“When you come to my house right now, every house that I have now has a farm,” he noted.
Asked about the number of houses he owns, Ofori Amponsah suggested that he has accumulated several properties over the years.
“Oh, it’s plenty,” he said during an interview on Hitz FM.
