The Ghana Muslim Forum for Peace and Unity (GMFPU) has strongly condemned Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, over what it describes as renewed and unjustified attacks on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a press release dated September 10, 2026, signed by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Zakari Abdul Rahman, the forum expressed deep disappointment over comments Owusu Bempah made during his church service on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The group reported that Owusu Bempah threatened to spiritually end Dr. Bawumia’s political career if individuals he referred to as Bawumia’s communicators did not cease their responses to him.
Additionally, he accused Dr. Bawumia and the Nasara Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of conspiring to attack his church.
The Forum noted that this recent outburst follows an earlier statement made on August 9, 2026, in which Rev. Owusu Bempah proclaimed that he would curse anyone who votes for the NPP and asserted that Dr. Bawumia would never become President of Ghana because a Muslim should not be permitted to lead a nation with a Christian majority.
“This continuous display of bitterness is bigger than politics. It is an attack on the very peace and unity that Ghana is celebrated for,” the statement said.
The group emphasised that Ghana has long been a global example of religious tolerance, where Christians and Muslims have coexisted for decades, intermarrying, collaborating, and jointly contributing to national development.
The release further contended that Dr. Bawumia’s political ascent undermines Rev. Owusu Bempah’s religious narrative, noting that Dr. Bawumia became the NPP presidential candidate due to the overwhelming support he received from NPP delegates, who are primarily Christians, based on his competence.
“In the 2024 general elections, he secured the trust and support of 42% of Ghanaian voters, the majority of whom were Christians. Ghanaian Christians voted for Bawumia because they saw a competent leader, not a religion,” the group stated.
In response to the pastor’s assertion that Dr. Bawumia cannot ascend to the presidency without his approval, the forum characterised this as a baseless and blasphemous threat, affirming that sovereignty is solely God’s domain.
Citing Qur’an 3:26, Psalm 75:6-7, and Daniel 2:21, the group emphasised that promotion and authority are granted by God, not by human beings.
The forum encouraged Dr. Bawumia to maintain his composure, dismiss what it referred to as the outbursts of Owusu Bempah, and persist in his well-regarded commitment to diversity and interfaith dialogue.
“Ghana’s Christian-Muslim unity is bigger and stronger than Owusu Bempah’s bitterness, and no extremist will be allowed to divide us,” the statement declared.
