The Conference of Heads (Proprietors) of Private Second-Cycle Schools (CHOPSS) has published its 2026 list of private second-cycle schools in good standing to help families seeking alternatives amid challenges with the BECE placement exercise.
The list covers affiliated schools across 14 regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Volta, Western and Northern regions.
CHOPSS said the publication is intended to make information about member schools more accessible to parents and prospective students.
The move follows reports that 54,985 BECE candidates were not placed into Senior High Schools through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System.
CHOPSS had previously indicated that private second-cycle schools were prepared to accommodate affected students.
“Private Second-Cycle Schools across the country are ready and willing to absorb these students and provide them with quality second-cycle education and the opportunity to pursue their academic aspirations.”
The listed schools offer a broad selection of programmes, including General Arts, General Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, Agricultural Science, Technical programmes, STEM, Computer Science, Information Technology and other specialised courses.
The list includes each school’s location, WAEC centre number and contact details, enabling parents to contact schools directly.
However, CHOPSS urged families to verify admission requirements, programmes, fees and other arrangements before enrolling their children.
CHOPSS advised parents and guardians to “make appropriate enquiries directly with schools concerning admission requirements, programmes offered, fees and other relevant arrangements before enrolling their wards.”
With many candidates still seeking placement, the 2026 CHOPSS list provides families with a useful starting point for exploring private SHSs as an alternative to public-school placement.
