The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has advised motorists who have no urgent business in Kaneshie to avoid the area, as a temporary road closure is expected to worsen traffic congestion.
The westbound carriageway of the Dr. Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction was closed to vehicular traffic on Monday, September 7, 2026, to allow contractors to undertake ongoing works under the GARID Project.
GARID Project Coordinator, Dr. Ohene Sarfo, said the closure would place additional pressure on traffic in Kaneshie, which is already experiencing significant congestion.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, Dr. Sarfo urged motorists to consider alternative routes where possible to reduce the number of vehicles heading towards the affected area.
He said drivers who do not have Kaneshie as their destination should avoid the area because traffic is likely to build up and cause considerable delays.
One of the alternative routes recommended is Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North, before connecting to the N1 Highway.
Motorists can also use the Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman, with the option of exiting around Mallam and Sakaman.
According to Dr. Sarfo, the use of these alternative routes would help distribute traffic and reduce the pressure on the Pamprom Junction-Kaneshie corridor.
He explained that Kaneshie has become a major traffic hotspot, making it important for motorists to cooperate with the diversion arrangements during the construction period.
Dr. Sarfo also appealed to drivers who must use the affected route to exercise patience and comply with traffic management measures.
He said motorists’ cooperation would enable the project team to complete the work as quickly as possible and reopen the road to traffic.
