Ghana’s Black Maidens have been handed a challenging draw for the 2027 U-17 Girls Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tournament after being placed in Group B alongside regional rivals Nigeria, Togo and Niger.
The competition, which will also serve as the WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Championship, is scheduled to begin on September 15, 2026, in Côte d’Ivoire.
The tournament will determine the teams from the zone that qualify for next year’s continental championship.
Ghana will face a strong test against Nigeria, who have a long-standing reputation for producing competitive women’s youth teams.
The meeting between the two West African giants is expected to be one of the key matches in the group.
Togo and Niger, however, cannot be overlooked. Both teams will be aiming to cause upsets and secure a place in the next stage of the competition, making Ghana’s route out of the group a difficult one.
The Black Maidens enter the tournament with confidence after winning the inaugural WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup last year.
Ghana defeated Nigeria on penalties in the final after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time.
