The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS) has denounced the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old student with special needs at the institution and has called for a comprehensive, transparent, and prompt investigation into the matter.
The reported incident allegedly involves two security personnel assigned to the school.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 24, the BOGISS PTA expressed that it has been closely monitoring the recent developments and media coverage regarding the case with “deep concern” and finds the allegations to be extremely troubling.
The PTA emphasised that no child entrusted to the school’s care should endure sexual abuse, exploitation, or any form of harm.
It urged that the investigations be carried out thoroughly and without delay, ensuring that appropriate penalties are imposed on anyone found guilty.
“The PTA condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the alleged defilement of a student of this school. No child entrusted to the care of BOGISS should ever suffer any form of sexual abuse, exploitation, or harm, and we consider the allegations extremely disturbing.
“We commend the swift arrest of the two suspects by the Ghana Police Service and their interdiction by the Ghana Education Service (GES), and we call for full, transparent, and expeditious investigations, with the harshest sanctions applied to anyone found culpable under the law.”
In addition to the criminal investigation, the PTA further urged the GES, the Department of Social Welfare, and other relevant child-protection agencies to ensure that the affected student receives the necessary support throughout the process.
It stated that the student should have access to counselling, medical care, and protection, while her welfare, dignity, and educational future must remain a priority.
“The PTA further calls on GES, the Department of Social Welfare, and relevant child-protection agencies to ensure that the affected student receives the counselling, medical care, and protection she needs, and that her welfare, dignity, and educational future are safeguarded throughout the process. Any decision affecting her status as a student should be guided first and foremost by her best interests, in line with standard child-protection practice,” the statement added.
