The Court of Appeal is expected to announce its decision today, Wednesday, August 12, regarding the Attorney-General’s request for a stay of execution of its ruling that acquitted and discharged former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of offences including causing financial loss to the state.
However, the Court of Appeal later reversed the conviction and acquitted and discharged her.
The Attorney-General is seeking to suspend the effect of the Court of Appeal’s ruling while the State’s appeal is being considered.
In its application, the Attorney-General contends that permitting the acquittal to take immediate effect could allow Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu to leave the jurisdiction and potentially hinder the State’s appeal.
Consequently, the State is requesting that the Court of Appeal maintain the status quo until the appeal is resolved.
The ruling is expected to clarify whether the acquittal and discharge will take immediate effect or remain on hold while the State continues with its appeal.
