A Brussels Airlines flight en route from Accra to Lomé safely returned to the Accra International Airport (AIA) on Monday evening after encountering a technical issue shortly after take-off.
According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Flight SN278 took off from Accra at 6:06 p.m. but experienced a technical problem during the flight.
As a precautionary measure for safety, the flight crew decided to return to Accra, where the aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m.
In a statement released on Monday, July 20, the GCAA praised the flight crew for adhering to established safety protocols.
The GCAA emphasised that the safety of passengers and crew is its utmost priority.
The Authority stated that the technical issue that led to the aircraft’s return is currently under investigation by Brussels Airlines, in accordance with established aviation safety protocols and under the supervision of the GCAA.
In the aftermath of the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278.
The GCAA mentioned that affected passengers are receiving assistance from airline officials in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 (Part 2 – Consumer Protection).
The Authority also reassured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains strong.
