Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has advised newly elected Central Region constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to approach politics with caution, urging them to rely on spiritual guidance as they begin their leadership roles.
Addressing the executives after the party’s recently concluded constituency elections, Afenyo-Markin described politics as more than a contest for public office, insisting that it also involves spiritual challenges that require faith and divine protection.
“I repeat one more time. Politics is a spiritual exercise; it’s not for the naked eye. Call on your God and He will come to your aid at your crossroads,” he told the gathering.
According to the Minority Leader, anyone seeking to build a career in politics should remain vigilant and seek God’s guidance throughout their journey.
He stressed that political leadership comes with many unseen challenges and that faith can help individuals navigate difficult moments.
The NPP recently conducted constituency executive elections across its 276 constituencies to elect new local party leaders ahead of future political activities.
While the exercise was generally peaceful in most parts of the country, a number of constituencies recorded disturbances that disrupted the voting process.
One of the most notable incidents occurred in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, where political activist Okatakyie Afrifa, who has declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries, was arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly disrupting the election process.
Following reports of irregularities, the NPP leadership announced the cancellation of election results in three constituencies, Bantama, Adansi Asokwa and Afigya Sekyere East.
In a statement, the party explained that the elections in the affected constituencies were conducted in what it described as a “flagrant disregard” of party directives, the rules governing the 2026 constituency executive elections and, where applicable, existing court orders.
The affected constituencies are expected to hold fresh elections on dates to be announced by the party.
