Pink nearly breaks down in tears as she discusses 3-yr-old son’s coronavirus battle
Last Thursday (April 9), pop rockstar Pink opened up to Ellen Degeneres about her harrowing experience after her and her 3-year-old son, Jameson, both contracted the coronavirus.
Earlier this month, Pink revealed via Instagram that she and her toddler were both on the road to recovery after testing positive. Speaking to Degeneres via video chat, Pink described it as one of the most “scariest” moments of her life. She recalled that her son was the first to come down with a fever on March 14, just three days after the family started self-quarantining. She said his symptoms “were all over the place.”
He exhibited other symptoms such as stomach pains, diarrhoea, chest pains, a headache and sore throat. At one point, his fever even reached 103 degrees. While Jameson was going through that, Pink’s health took a turn for the worse around March 16, although she was unaware it might be from the virus at the time. She recalled once waking up in the middle of the night and struggling to breathe. She had to use her nebulizer for the first time in about thirty years.
“I couldn’t function without it and that’s when I started to get really scared,” Pink recollected.
They were able to procure a single test through their family doctor. Pink revealed that after taking the test, it came back positive one week later as she suspected. Things got even more frightening after her son’s condition worsened, she said, when he began to vomit, complain about chest pains and had difficulty breathing.
“That’s the point where you are just kind of like, ‘Ok, are we going to the hospital? Like what are we doing right now? This is the scariest thing I’ve ever been through in my whole life,” she said as her voice began to rear emotion.
Ultimately, Pink said they had to ride out the “roller coaster” experience. Thankfully, the two were able to be re-tested two weeks later and their results came back negative. She acknowledged her privilege at both her and her son both being able to get tested when many others are being denied access to the same opportunity. She expressed these same sentiments in the aforementioned Instagram post where she announced that she was donating $1 million to coronavirus relief fund efforts.
“It’s very controversial to people that I was able to get my hands on a test. I would say two things to that. I would say, you should be angry that I can get a test and you can’t, but being angry at me isn’t going to help anything. It’s not going to solve the issue of the fact that you can’t get your hands on a test,” she noted to Ellen. “You should be angry about that. And we should work together to try and change that.”
