Health authorities reveal 13 contacts traced with Central Region first case

The Central Regional Health Directorate has traced thirteen people who had interactions with the first person to have been infected with coronavirus in the Central Region.

Speaking to the media, the Central Regional Health Director, Dr Akosua Owusu Sarpong, said the region’s first confirmed case happens to be a Ghanaian who recently returned from the UK.

“…So far we have identified 13 contacts and some will need self-isolation. We have also identified a secondary school within the region that we are going to hold families living in small apartments.

“We will continue to monitor them daily should they develop any condition as most have. Their samples have also been taken and we will soon get the results,” she said.

She noted that the contacts traced would be quarantined as testing continued within the region.

The Central Region recorded its first COVID-19 case on April 7.

Dr Sarpong further said the Metropolitan Health Directorate and the metropolitan assembly would be supporting the contacts with food.

As of 11:30 pm, on April 7, 2020, Ghana had recorded 313 cases of COVID-19.

Greater Accra Region leads with 274 of the cases, while 25  cases were confirmed in the Ashanti Region.

Ten cases have been confirmed in the Northern Region, while the Upper West, Upper East,  Eastern and Central regions have recorded one case each.
