Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has expressed doubt over whether former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, will serve her full 10-year prison sentence.
According to him, although the justice system has concluded the case with conviction and sentencing in the MASLOC-related corruption trial, Ghana’s political history suggests that some convicted persons later benefit from presidential clemency.
“I don’t think she will serve the full jail term. I am sure at some point there will be a presidential pardon. That is my view based on how things have happened in this country,” Mr. Glover said
He stressed that the President has constitutional powers to grant pardons, adding that such interventions are not new in Ghana’s governance system.
“The President has the prerogative to grant a pardon, and we have seen it before,” he added.
Dr. Attionu was convicted of financial irregularities at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), where she served as Chief Executive Officer. The court found her guilty on multiple charges relating to the management of public funds and subsequently handed down a custodial sentence.
Her conviction remains one of the notable corruption-related rulings involving a former head of a state agency, drawing continued public attention to accountability in public office.
