Great Olympics terminates contracts of experienced players
Premier League action in Ghana may have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that has not deterred premiership clubs from the continuous restructuring of their squads.
One of such teams, Accra Great Olympics, which prioritised experience over youthfulness during its preseason signings, and brought in some high-profile players to beef up the team. But almost midway through the season, the club seems dissatisfied with the outcome of the decision.
With the Ghana Premier League temporarily suspended, the wonder club is offloading players it deem surplus to requirement.
Players whose contracts have been terminated, because of what the club describes as poor performance, include former premier league goal king, Emmanuel Clottey; former Aduana stalwart Godfred Saka; former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Ernest Sowah; and former Accra Hearts of Oak’s winger, Ollenu Ashitey.
Olympics in a massive reshuffle has decided to cut loose the veterans in order to boost their squad with some young energetic players to help them survive in the Ghana Premier League as the team after 15 matches are languishing in the relegation zone.
Olympics was one of the three teams promoted to the elite division this season after spending more than three years in Division One.
