An 85-year-old man and his 28-year-old son are in police custody following the burning of a 10-bedroom house at Kompien, a suburb of Tuna in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
The Ghana Police Service, through its Savannah Regional Command, confirmed the arrest of Elijah Wulo and his son, David Wulo.
They are being held at the Damongo Divisional Police Station and are expected to appear before the Damongo Circuit Court on a provisional charge of causing unlawful damage.
The fire destroyed the family’s 10-bedroom self-contained house, a 20-acre cashew farm, a grinding mill and other valuables. Three other suspects identified as Razack, Yahuza and Gudus are on the run.
According to the Savannah Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Amoako, the suspects were identified by the victims, whose names have been withheld.
The complainants told in an interview that the trouble began after the suspects accused them of being responsible for the death of a herder’s cattle.
They said they were invited to the Kog palace but declined, citing a previous attack in which a relative was allegedly injured.
While they were later detained at the Tuna Police Station over the dispute, they claim their cashew farm was set ablaze.
A day after their release, their home was also torched.
The Paramount Chief of Kog, Seidu Adamu Jinturge I, has denied knowledge of the incident.
Police investigations are ongoing as officers pursue the remaining suspects.
