The Koforidua High Court has convicted 25-year-old Vera Asare of manslaughter after she admitted to pouring acid on her boyfriend, Daniel Omane, while he was asleep.
The tragic incident occurred on November 29, 2024, following what prosecutors described as a domestic dispute between the couple.
In a moment that would change both their lives forever, Asare allegedly poured the corrosive substance on Omane as he lay defenceless.
The attack left the young man with extensive and life-threatening burns.
He battled for months in the hospital, undergoing treatment and struggling with complications.
Despite efforts by medical staff, he died on July 25, 2025.
In court, Asare entered a guilty plea under a negotiated plea agreement with the prosecution.
The agreement recommended a 10-year custodial sentence.
Although the court accepted the plea, sentencing has been deferred to March 11, 2026.
The judge indicated that a pregnancy test and other relevant factors would be considered before the final decision is pronounced.
