A Valentine’s Day celebration at Adorkorpe, near Ada Kasseh in the Greater Accra Region, turned tragic after a dispute over a mobile phone left a 26-year-old man dead.
Wisdom Tetteh Assem was reportedly stabbed during a confrontation with a block factory worker, identified as Eric Kartel, who is currently on the run.
According to information gathered, tensions flared when Kartel accused Assem of urinating on the premises of a drinking spot where a Valentine’s Day event was underway.
Witnesses say the confrontation escalated quickly. Kartel allegedly seized Assem’s phone during the argument, leading to a heated exchange between the two men.
Although the situation appeared to have calmed momentarily, it is reported that Kartel later returned to the scene armed with a pair of scissors.
In the ensuing struggle, Assem was stabbed and sustained fatal injuries. Residents described scenes of panic and confusion as bystanders attempted to intervene, but the young man could not be saved.
A friend of the suspect has since been arrested to assist with investigations, while the Ada Divisional Police have launched a manhunt for Kartel.
The suspected murder weapon has since been retrieved.
