Residents of Berekum are reacting with mixed feelings following the arrest of a 39-year-old man believed to be a major distributor of Indian hemp in the area.

David Frimpong was picked up by officers after police reportedly found substances suspected to be narcotics in his possession.

Among the items retrieved was a container of groundnut cake toffee believed to have been laced with Indian hemp.

A search of his home led to the discovery of 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 wraps of the same substance, and three sacks filled with leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Investigators believe the quantities point to a well-organised distribution network operating within Berekum and nearby communities.

The arrest was carried out by the Ghana Police Service as part of efforts to clamp down on the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in the Bono Region.
