‘Senesi’s most likely destination revealed’

Liverpool are leading the race to sign soon-to-be free agent defender Marcos Senesi when he leaves Bournemouth, according to the i Paper.

The 28-year-old Argentina international’s contract runs out at the end of June and speculation is growing that he will choose to remain in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked, but Liverpool is his most likely destination, this report claims.

Last season’s Premier League champions are short on central defenders after a Deadline Day move for Marc Guehi collapsed last summer.

Captain Virgil van Dijk, 34, has endured his toughest season at Anfield, while his centre-back partner Ibrahima Konate’s form has nosedived as speculation around his future swirls.

Liverpool remain committed to agreeing terms on a new deal for Konate, who is also out of contract in the summer, but there has been no resolution over his future.

Joe Gomez, the most trusted back-up to Liverpool’s starting centre-backs, has shared his time playing at right-back and in the heart of defence with injuries interrupting his season.

Gomez has one more year left on his contract after the summer and Liverpool face making a decision over his future too.
