The Asankrangwa District Police in the Western Region have arrested five individuals in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a spare parts shop located in Malta, near Asankrangwa.

The suspects have been named as Issaku Ibrahim, 42, Fatau Ali, 25, Yahaya Mumuni, 26, and Emmanuel Antwi, 22, who attempted to escape. A fifth suspect, whose identity remains unverified, has also been taken into custody.

According to a police report, the incident transpired on March 12, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., when Chen Zchao, a Chinese national, along with his younger brother, Yao Chan, were assaulted at their shop by six armed individuals.

The report stated that the attackers, armed with two pump-action shotguns and machetes, stole three mobile phones and GH¢200,000 in cash before fleeing in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle towards Sefwi Bekwai.

The police report further indicated that the suspects admitted to travelling from Obuasi to execute the robbery.

It was also noted that cautionary statements have been recorded, and the recovered items have been secured as evidence.

All four suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

“The fifth suspect was arrested by community members this morning and handed over to police,” the report added.
