Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after a court order, his lawyers have said.

In a statement released on April 8, 2026, his lawyers, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, explained that he was freed on April 7, 2026, and has now returned home to be with his family.

The statement also said that Mr. Ofori-Atta is determined to follow the legal process and defend his rights under U.S. law and the Constitution.

His lawyers added that he and his family are very grateful to everyone who prayed for him and supported them during his time in detention.

Mr. Ofori-Atta had been held by ICE since January 2026 due to issues related to his immigration status.
