Emmanuel Antwi denies allegations that he insulted supporters of Asante Kotoko following the club’s recent defeat to Samartex.

Following a 2:1 defeat to Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday, supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko expressed their frustration over what they described as a “mediocre performance” by the team.

In a show of displeasure, sections of the agitated fans hooted at the players after the final whistle.

Amid the tense atmosphere, midfielder Emmanuel Antwi made a gesture that did not go down well with the supporters. The action has since been widely interpreted as disrespectful, sparking criticism among fans and drawing significant media attention. The incident has further intensified discussions around the team’s recent performances and its relationship with its supporters.

The midfielder, in an attempt to restore the broken relationship between the fans and the playing body, moved quickly to clarify the situation, addressing fans’ concerns while acknowledging the team’s struggles on the pitch.

In an interview monitored, the player stated;

“I didn’t insult any supporter after our loss to Samartex. They might have mistaken a gesture for an insult. However, I apologize to our beloved supporters if it was in bad taste.”

“The recent poor run at Kotoko is a concern to every player. We can’t really lay fingers on the cause; we promise to turn things around.”

Antwi’s response reflects a desire to ease tensions between players and supporters during a difficult period for the club. With performances under scrutiny, his apology and commitment to improvement signal an effort within the squad to rebuild trust and restore Asante Kotoko to winning ways.
