What began as a long-standing family dispute over land has ended in tragedy at Berekum, where two people have lost their lives following a violent attack allegedly carried out by a close relative.

Police say Emmanuel Yeboah is suspected of attacking his brother and his brother’s wife during a confrontation over the ownership of a cashew farm.

The victims were reportedly ambushed and attacked with a cutlass while on their way to the disputed land.

Both victims sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to a health facility for treatment but sadly died on January 8, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Regional Public Relations Officer, the suspect was arrested and remanded into police custody on January 3, 2026, by the Berekum Circuit Court, presided over by Osei Kofi, on charges of attempted murder and causing harm.

The statement noted that the suspect is expected to reappear before the court on January 12, 2026, for further proceedings.

At the time of his initial arraignment, the victims were still receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the attack was triggered by a long-standing disagreement over the cashew farm.

A cutlass believed to have been used in the attack was retrieved from nearby bushes, and investigations are ongoing.
