My husband doesn’t have coronavirus – Ursula declares

Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has said that her husband, who went  under quarantine, has tested negative for the deadly coronavirus.

The Minister disclosed on her Facebook wall that there were no signs of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 after tests conducted at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).

“Suspected Covid-19 specimen for SAM EKUFFUL submitted on 21/03/2020 tested NEGATIVE for SARS-COV-2 virus,” she posted on her wall on Sunday, March 22.

Her husband, Dr Samuel Owusu Ekuful, is a UK-based ophthalmologist who returned to Ghana about a week ago following the coronavirus pandemic.

As required by Ghanaians from abroad returning from countries which have recorded positive cases of 200 and above, the doctor went straight into self-isolation in one of the rooms at their matrimonial home.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful has said in an interview that no one was in contact with her husband at the house.“

“They leave his food at the door. If we want to talk to him, we stand at a safe distance away and talk to him,” she said.

Ghana has recorded 24 cases so far with one death.

The government has announced measures to tackle the menace, including the closure of the country’s borders and a ban on public gatherings.

Elsewhere, deaths across the globe are inching towards 15,000 with 343, 437 recorded cases.
