Samuel Eto’o influenced Vincent Aboubakar’s AFCON Omission to protect record- Report
A fresh set of accusations have been levelled against President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o Fils, as his second term in office continues to be embroiled in controversy.
After recently sacked head coach of Cameroon’s National Football Team, Marc Brys, accused Eto’o of winning the Presidency illegitimately, Irish based newspaper, The Irish Sun, have reported that Eto’o was behind the shock omission of Vincent Aboubakar from Cameroon’s 2025 AFCON squad.
Aboubakar and Andre Onana were the biggest names omitted from Cameroon’s AFCON bound squad but the newspaper claims that Eto’o influenced the selection to preserve his goal scoring record for the national team.
Eto’o has 56 goals for Cameroon while Aboubakar has 45 goals for the Indomitable Lions and is 12 goals from beating the record set by Eto’o. Cameroon has been drawn in Group F with Mozambique, Gabon and Cote D’Ivoire.

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo and Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba lead Cameroon’s AFCON squad.
