NIA suspends controversial registration exercise
The National Identification Authority has announced, it has suspended its controversial registration exercise in the Eastern region.
This follows an injunction application at the High Court. The NIA has been severely condemned for going on with the exercise amidst a deadly coronavirus outbreak that has seen 16 infections in Ghana.
The president, Nana Akufo-Addo, had announced a ban on public gathering in a bid to contain the spread.
Church services, mosques have been the most severely affected by the ban. But the NIA continued the registration much to public consternation.
It has now said, in a statement, the exercise is on hold.
