The National Peace Council (NPC) has praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his decisive role in mediating the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, calling his intervention a major step toward ending decades of violence in the area.
With the final mediation sessions set for November 30 and December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, the Council expressed optimism that the multi-stage process led by the Asantehene is moving closer to a breakthrough.
The NPC said the structured engagement under Otumfuo’s leadership offers the most credible path to lasting peace in the conflict-prone municipality.
In a statement issued on Saturday, November 22, the Council commended both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions for their cooperation during the separate and joint meetings held so far.
It urged the parties to maintain calm and remain open as the mediation enters its most critical phase.
The Council noted that resolving the traditional and chieftaincy disputes, which have caused deadly clashes, displaced families, and destroyed livelihoods in Bawku, would be a significant milestone for national peace and cohesion.
Emphasising that a final settlement would save lives and reinforce Ghana’s reputation for peacefully resolving complex conflicts, the NPC called on both factions to stay committed and fully support the Otumfuo Committee to achieve a lasting resolution.
