Democracy Hub sues Nana Kwame Bediako for defamation
Democracy Hub has filed a defamation suit at the High Court against businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, widely recognised as Freedom Jacob Caesar or Cheddar, concerning statements he made on 25 and 26 September 2024.
The organisation contends that these remarks inaccurately represented its activities and organisers as being politically motivated and partisan.
In a statement released by the Democracy Hub Secretariat, the pressure group asserted that the allegations are “entirely false, without basis, and inconsistent with our long-standing record of independent civic mobilisation”.
“Our protests, including #FixTheCountry, #OccupyJulorbiHouse, and #StopGalamsey, have been organised transparently, publicly, and without sponsorship or direction from any political party,” the statement further noted.
Since its inception, Democracy Hub has established itself as an advocate for constitutionalism, accountable governance, and citizen empowerment in Ghana.
The group highlighted that efforts to misrepresent its work not only harm the reputations of individual organisers but also jeopardise the integrity of civic action within the nation.
This legal action follows public remarks made by Nana Kwame Bediako, who, according to Democracy Hub, attempted to portray the organisation as a vehicle for political agendas.
The defamation lawsuit aims to contest these assertions and seek legal remedy through the courts.
