IGP orders the release of Kwahu queenmother
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the immediate release of the Queen Mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, following an operation conducted by some officers at the Abene Palace on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025.
Additionally, the IGP has instructed the Police Professional Standards Bureau(PPSB) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation and to ensure that any officer found responsible is appropriately sanctioned.
Reports indicate that the Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council at Abene was attacked in the early hours of Monday, around 4 a.m., by armed individuals dressed in police uniforms who claimed to be from the National Security.
Residents reported hearing gunfire within the palace before the alleged abduction of the Queen Mother, who was present during the incident.
In response, security measures have been heightened in and around Kwahu to protect residents and visitors.
The Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, was reportedly arrested by police following the early morning raid on the palace.
Sources suggest that the operation was executed by officers from the Police Headquarters, and it has been reported that gunfire was exchanged during the incident.
Meanwhile, both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have stated that they were unaware of the operation, raising concerns regarding coordination and oversight within the police force.
