U.S. Embassy consoles families of GAF recruitment tragedy victims

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who tragically lost their lives during the recruitment exercise held on November 12 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

In a statement released on Thursday, November 13, the Embassy articulated that its thoughts are with the people of Ghana during this sorrowful time, recognizing the tragedy and the sorrow it has brought.

The fatal stampede took place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when a large number of job seekers gathered at the El-Wak Sports Stadium for a recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that six individuals have died, with many others injured and currently receiving care at the 37 Military Hospital.

The recruitment exercise has been put on hold until further notice as investigations are ongoing.
