Curfew lifted on Gulumpe township

The government has lifted the curfew that was enforced on Gulumpe and its neighbouring areas within the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region due to an improvement in the security situation.

This decision was communicated in a statement released in Accra on November 4, 2025, and was signed by Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior.

It was made following recommendations from the National Security Council.

As stated, the decision was influenced by the strong wish of the chiefs and residents of Gulumpe to uphold peace, along with the improved security conditions in the region.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council, has lifted the curfew on Gulumpe Township and its environs in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region with immediate effect,” the statement said.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of Gulumpe for their collaboration and for opting for peaceful methods to settle their differences.

“Government urges the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents to continue to use peaceful dialogue in addressing any disputes,” Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak stated.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security throughout the nation and encouraged ongoing collaboration between local leaders and security agencies to maintain stability in the Bono East Region.

The curfew on Gulumpe and its surroundings was initially imposed on October 21, 2025, following escalating tensions related to a chieftaincy dispute.

The restriction, which was in effect from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., aimed to avert further disturbances while peace negotiations were in progress.
