Couple die in late-night house fire at New Dormaa

A devastating fire has claimed the lives of a married couple at New-Dormaa Mango Grove in the Sunyani Municipality.

The late-night blaze occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, during a heavy downpour.

The victims have been identified as 65-year-old Nana Siribour Ampoo II, a sub-chief from Wenchi, and his 48-year-old wife, Grace Yaa Ampoo.

The couple were reportedly trapped inside their five-bedroom residence as the fire rapidly engulfed the structure. Despite their efforts to escape, they were unable to make it out in time.

Other occupants of the home managed to flee the burning house unharmed.

Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1) Kwame Adomako of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident.

He stated that the fire team received a distress call late in the night but arrived to find the fire had already reached dangerous levels.

“Preliminary findings indicate the victims attempted to escape but got trapped,” he told the press, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Fire officials have reminded the public to call the emergency line (03520-27129) promptly during fire outbreaks to improve response times and reduce casualties.
