Man commits suicide after machete attack on wife at Oheamadwen

A tragic incident has shaken the community of Oheamadwen in the Shama District of Ghana’s Western Region.

A 57-year-old man, Agya Badu, known locally as Express, reportedly took his own life after attacking his wife with a machete.

The couple had been facing ongoing marital challenges, and according to residents, the situation worsened when the wife informed him of her decision to end the marriage.

Tensions escalated earlier in the week when Badu allegedly attempted to harm her on Monday.

Fearing for her safety, she reported the incident to the police and sought help from local chiefs and elders.

Assembly Member Owu Ewie shared details of the case during an interview.

“He had issues with his wife on Monday. She was scared and reported the initial attack to the police and later summoned him to the chiefs and elders,” he said.

Badu, who worked as a security guard, had been avoiding home since the first incident.

But on Thursday evening, after his shift, he returned and launched a second, more violent attack.

His wife sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Efiankwanta Regional Hospital.

Following the assault, Badu left the house and was later found dead, having hanged himself from a tree nearby. The couple shares a three-year-old child.
