Couple injured in bullion van crash on Takoradi road
A couple sustained serious injuries after a speeding bullion van crashed into the rear of their Volkswagen Golf on the Effia Nkwanta-Takoradi stretch near TACOTEL on Wednesday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses say the couple was travelling toward Takoradi in their private car, registered WR-3230-11, when the van rammed into them from behind.
The impact forced the car off the road, causing it to somersault.
Shockingly, the driver of the bullion van did not stop after the collision. A second van, which was closely following, also failed to stop and offer any assistance.
According to eyewitnesses, the vans were both travelling at high speed and appeared to be overtaking from an improper lane.
“Two bullion vans were speeding on the road. The Golf was in its lane when one of them hit it from behind. The couple in that car have been wounded.
The man had a deep cut on his forehead and face, and the woman injured her hand and finger. None of the drivers stopped. We had to rush the victims to Effia Nkwanta Hospital ourselves,” a witness recounted.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has since been informed.
Residents and eyewitnesses are calling for the arrest of the van driver, describing his actions as reckless and dangerous.
Meanwhile, police investigations are underway, and the victims remain under medical care as efforts to trace the bullion van continue.
