Two jailed for robbing and assaulting 19-year-old hairdresser
A 19-year-old hairdresser has found justice after enduring a traumatic attack along the Apollonia-Afienya road. On September 27, she hired an okada rider, Nicholas Tetteh, to transport her to Afienya.
Unbeknownst to her, he had allegedly conspired with two others, including Joseph Tetteh, to ambush her during the journey.
According to police reports, the suspects dragged the young woman into a nearby bush, where two of them sexually assaulted her. They also took her iPhone XR and a handbag containing GHC150.
Shaken but determined, the victim reported the incident to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
She received medical attention and gave a detailed statement to investigators.
The police acted swiftly. Within days, the suspects were arrested and charged with robbery and rape.
They were arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court and have each been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The incident has sparked conversations around the safety of young women, especially those who rely on informal transport services.
Community leaders are urging authorities to strengthen security along isolated routes and improve public awareness about reporting abuse.
