Otto Addo not fit to lead Black Stars to 2026 World Cup – Kyei-Mensah Bonsu

Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, has expressed serious reservations about the ability of Black Stars coach Otto Addo to lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, should the team qualify.

Ghana currently sits atop Group I in the qualifiers, holding a three-point lead with just two matches remaining.

While the team has achieved positive results on paper, their overall performances have lacked consistency and conviction, prompting criticism of Addo’s tactical approach and leadership.

Speaking in an interview, Kyei-Mensah Bonsu questioned Addo’s readiness for the world stage.

“I believe Ghana will qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not the coach to take us there successfully, he simply lacks the depth and experience needed at that level,” he stated.

He acknowledged that Ghana’s closest rival, Mali, posed a significant threat but stumbled early in the qualifiers, making their path to qualification unlikely.

He also dismissed the chances of Madagascar, who trail Ghana with 16 points, saying they are unlikely to win both of their remaining fixtures.

Ghana’s recent victory over Mali has put the team just one win away from confirming its spot at the global tournament.

The Black Stars will next face the Central African Republic away, followed by a final home clash against Comoros in October.

Despite the team’s strong position, Kyei-Mensah Bonsu insists that a change in leadership is necessary if Ghana hopes to make a meaningful impact at the World Cup.
