Bono region receives 252 more displaced persons from Gbinyiri

The Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Fati Kine-Lam, has confirmed the arrival of an additional 252 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region, following the ongoing violence in Gbinyiri.

According to her, 250 of the new arrivals are currently being sheltered in communities within the Tain District, while two others have been received in Suma-Ahnekro in the Jaman North District.

In an interview with the media, Mrs. Kine-Lam revealed that the total number of IDPs in the Bono Region has now reached approximately 800, including around 500 children.

The majority are being housed in the Wenchi Municipality.

The displacement follows deadly clashes in Gbinyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

The conflict, which began over a land dispute on Sunday, August 25, 2025, has so far claimed the lives of at least 30 people and forced hundreds, mostly women and children, to flee their homes.

Mrs. Kine-Lam raised concerns about the health conditions of many of the displaced, particularly children and pregnant women, and appealed for urgent humanitarian support.

“The health of most of the children and some pregnant mothers is worrying. We are calling on NGOs, government agencies, and individuals to come to their aid with medical supplies, food, and shelter,” she said.
