2025 BECE: WAEC cancels 895 results, withholds 1,333

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.

In a press statement dated August 23, 2025, WAEC confirmed that results have been dispatched to various schools through Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

Candidates can also access their results online via the Council’s official website at www.waecgh.org.

This year, a total of 603,328 candidates comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools sat for the examination.

The exams were conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.

Among the total number, 472 candidates had special needs, including 72 with visual impairments, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 with other conditions requiring special accommodations.

WAEC, in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, indicated that investigations into irregularities during the examination and marking process led to sanctions approved by the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee.

As a result, subject results of 718 candidates and the entire results of 177 candidates have been cancelled.

In addition, subject results of 1,240 candidates and the full results of 93 candidates have been withheld pending further review.

This brings the number of cancelled results to 895 and withheld results to 1,333.

The statement further revealed that subject results from 119 schools were cancelled, while results from 87 other schools are still under investigation.

WAEC expects to complete these inquiries and issue a final decision on the withheld results by September 6, 2025.

Candidates affected by withheld or cancelled results are advised to visit https://irreg.waec.org, or click on the “withheld/cancelled results” link on the WAEC homepage for more details.

The platform provides information on the reasons behind the actions taken and guidance on the next steps.

School heads may also access this information through their official login credentials.

WAEC further cautioned students and the general public against falling victim to fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee. The Council stressed that its results are secure, cannot be tampered with, and are fully verifiable.

Finally, WAEC expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, invigilators, examiners, and all other partners whose contributions ensured the smooth conduct of the 2025 BECE and the timely release of results.
