NACOC destroys seized illicit drugs in Savannah Region

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has destroyed a significant quantity of seized illicit drugs and illegal substances in the Savannah Region.

The destruction follows a series of successful joint operations targeting drug trafficking and abuse in the area.

The substances were confiscated from individuals during coordinated enforcement actions aimed at curbing the rising threat of narcotics use and distribution.

As a result of these efforts, the Damongo Circuit Court convicted six offenders, each receiving fines of no less than 500 penalty units.

Speaking to the media, Savannah Regional Minister Salifu Be-Awuribe reaffirmed the government’s firm stance against drug-related crimes.

“This is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown we’ve taken very seriously. We’re encouraged by the court’s decisive sanctions and the order to destroy these harmful substances,” he stated, emphasising that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has intensified security operations across the region.

Savannah Regional Commander of NACOC, Rashida Ewuntomah, also highlighted the Commission’s plans to enhance its operations through the establishment of district and municipal offices.

“With the presence of officers at the local level, we’ll have quicker access to real-time intelligence, making our work more efficient and proactive. Until then, we’re doing everything we can to track and prosecute offenders,” she said.
