Deal with vigilante groups irrespective of party affiliation – NPP youth organiser
The National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged security authorities to deal with any group of persons that uses violence or hooliganism in the name of vigilantism.
“The party will not condone any act that hinges on lawlessness, it is foreign to our principles and such persons should be dealt with according to the law,” Nana Boakye told Richard Kwadwo Nyarko of Joy News.
He explained that the party does not believe in violence and the youth should not engage in such acts.
His comments come after members of Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the NPP caused mayhem at Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, when they disrupted a meeting called by their parliamentarian, Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto.
The angry youth stormed the Tafo Pankrono M/A Junior High School (JHS) on motorbikes and abruptly brought to an end the meeting between the MP and his Constituency executives.
The MP who felt threatened had to be taken quickly into his car and driven to safety.
Two members of the vigilante group were later arrested and taken in for violence in which a minister of state had to run for his dear life.
Commenting on the development, the NPP National Youth Organiser urged the aggrieved members of the party to use lawful means to address their grievances instead of causing chaos.
Nana Boakye stated that the party will not disown its members but they should play by the rules and laws of the country and the party.
“The members can take advantage of the numerous policies introduced by the government as a source of livelihood,” he urged.
