Former MIIF CEO stopped at Airport over unauthorized travel

Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), was stopped from boarding an international flight at Kotoka International Airport on the night of July 29, 2025.

Mr. Koranteng is currently under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and is on enquiry bail.

Authorities say he attempted to leave the country without receiving the required permission from the OSP, violating one of the key conditions of his bail.

Unaware that he had been placed on a travel watch list, often referred to as a “stop list”, Mr. Koranteng was flagged by Ghana Immigration Service officials during routine checks. He was promptly taken into custody at the airport.

A source at the airport described the situation as calm but firm.

“He didn’t resist. He looked surprised, but the officers acted professionally,” the source said.

The Ghana Immigration Service immediately notified the OSP, which has since taken custody of the former MIIF boss for further questioning and appropriate legal action.

Details of the investigation involving Mr. Koranteng have not been made public, but his restricted status signals a case considered serious by the Special Prosecutor’s office.

The OSP is expected to release further details in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
