Presidential hopefuls to pay GH¢600,000 as nomination, filing fees – NPP
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for its presidential primaries, announcing that aspiring candidates must pay a total of GH¢600,000 in nomination and filing fees.
This was detailed in a notice released by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on July 29, 2025.
The statement, based on the NPP’s constitutional guidelines, sets out the financial obligations for members who want to contest the 2028 presidential election on the party’s ticket.
According to the notice, candidates are first required to pay a non-refundable nomination fee of GH¢100,000 to obtain the nomination forms.
After completing that step, they must submit a bankers draft of GH¢500,000 as the filing fee to continue in the race.
An additional Development Fee will also be charged, although the exact amount will be determined by the party’s National Council at a later date.
Nominations officially open today, July 29, and will close on August 28, while the party’s National Congress to elect its presidential candidate is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
While the fee structure has sparked debate in some circles, party officials say it is necessary to ensure that only serious candidates enter the race.
Speaking on behalf of the party, an NPP Kodua said, “This process is meant to streamline the contest and focus our efforts on selecting a strong, committed leader who is ready to carry the party into 2028″.
The upcoming primary is expected to draw significant interest as the NPP looks to win Ghana’s presidency in 2028.
