Ashanti Regional Police arrest 2 for possessing illegal firearms

The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two men for unlawful possession of firearms, as part of a targeted crackdown on violent crime in the region.

The suspects are Acheampong Kwadwo, 21, and James Antwi Adjei, 24 were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday during an intelligence-led operation at a suspected criminal hideout spanning Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie.

Police say the arrests are part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety across the Ashanti Region.

According to a police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, “a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of two pump-action shotguns one bearing serial number ASAO 2164 2021 and the other without a serial number”.

“Both firearms are suspected to be stolen and were possibly intended for use in robbery operations across the Atwima Districts and the Greater Kumasi area,” the statement said.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that additional updates will be shared as the investigation unfolds.
