Interior Minister renews curfew in Sampa, other communities in Bono Region

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced a renewal of curfew hours for several communities in the Bono Region, following advice from the Bono Regional Security Council.

The decision, which takes effect Thursday, May 1, 2025, is backed by an Executive Instrument.

Residents of Sampa Township in the Jaman North District will now observe a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily.

In addition, the same curfew hours have been imposed on Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom, and Katakyiekrom in the Jaman South Municipality.

A statement from the Interior Ministry called on residents to remain calm and cooperative as authorities work to maintain order.

Chiefs, youth leaders, and other influential figures in the affected areas are being urged to promote dialogue and peaceful engagement.

“The government is appealing to all residents to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to address their concerns,” the Ministry stated.

Alongside the curfew, there is a strict ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any form of offensive weapons within these communities.

Authorities have warned that anyone found violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution.

The renewed curfew and weapons ban are part of ongoing efforts to preserve peace in the region, which has experienced tensions in recent months.

Security agencies are maintaining a visible presence to support the enforcement of these measures.
