GBA urges Mahama to publish CJ suspension ruling

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is urging President John Mahama to release the full decision that led to the suspension of the Chief Justice.

This request comes amid growing public debate and concern over the transparency of the process.

The GBA issued a public statement stating that openness is critical when dealing with such a sensitive constitutional issue.

The group believes that publishing the complete findings would help preserve trust in Ghana’s judicial and democratic institutions.

“The Ghana Bar Association calls upon the President of the Republic of Ghana to immediately release the full decision establishing a prima facie case against the Chief Justice, consistent with established precedent,” the statement read.

In recent years, the GBA noted that similar cases involving Article 146 of the Constitution have seen the full prima facie decisions released to the public.

They argue that this practice promotes accountability and strengthens public confidence in legal procedures.

The association also reminded stakeholders of the importance of upholding the rule of law. It urged all involved to protect the rights of everyone affected and to approach the situation with care and integrity.

For many legal observers and citizens alike, the suspension of a sitting Chief Justice is an extraordinary event. Transparency, the GBA says, is not just a matter of procedure but one of public interest and democratic health.

The statement closed with a strong reminder: judicial independence remains a pillar of Ghana’s democracy and must be guarded carefully in both letter and spirit.
