Remain calm, steadfast and law-abiding – Bawumia to NPP members

The presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members and supporters to stay calm, steadfast, and compliant with the law amidst what he perceives as increasing political intimidation from the ruling government.

His comments follow the recent attempted arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South and the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, by officials from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

In light of the incident, Dr. Bawumia visited the MP, noting that he remained “in high spirits and undaunted” despite the unsettling raid at his home.

Addressing party loyalists, Dr. Bawumia urged, “I charge all Party faithful to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding in this period of unfortunate political persecution”.

He reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and democratic values, even when faced with provocations.

Additionally, he appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to curb the actions of security operatives and ensure that state institutions are not politicized.

“The security institutions of our country must not be reduced to political tools used to harass and intimidate opponents,” Dr Bawumia stressed, warning that Ghanaians would not accept such tactics.

Characterizing the behavior of the security officials as a “descent into lawlessness and fear,” Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of professionalism and accountability within Ghana’s security forces.

He reassured NPP supporters that the party would remain resolute against any abuse of power and would continue to champion the principles of democracy and justice.
