NDC parliamentary candidate dies

The NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ahanta West, George Kwame Aboagye has died.

The former MP died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, starrfm.com.gh reports.

Family sources told the website that Mr Aboagye known in political circles as “Abugye” had been on hospital admission for a while.

Born on February 4, 1950, the former MP died on Monday, February 3, 2020, a day before his 70th birthday.

Mr Kwame Aboagye became the second member of Parliament to have won the Ahanta West seat for the NDC in the 2012 elections after beating the then incumbent Samuel Johnfiah.

He was also the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC).

In 2012, he resigned from the GIPC to do active politics.

A 2011 Auditor-General’s report indicted Mr Aboagye for tax evasion.

According to the report, he never paid taxes on his salary whiles he served at the centre for years.

This was contrary to the provision of the 1992 Constitution.
