President John Dramani Mahama has appointed new heads for key security agencies in Ghana, bringing fresh leadership to the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
The newly appointed officers are:
- Patience Baffoe-Bonnie – Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service
- Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong – Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service
- Samuel Basentale Amadu – Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service
The newly appointed security chiefs bring a wealth of experience, leadership, and innovation to their respective roles.
Their task will be to implement strategic reforms, improve operational efficiency, and enhance public trust in security institutions.
Patience Baffoe-Bonnie – Director-General, Ghana Prisons Service
Patience Baffoe-Bonnie has dedicated over 25 years to the Ghana Prisons Service, working to improve inmate rehabilitation and prison administration.
Before her appointment, she served as Deputy Director-General of Prisons (Operations & Welfare), where she introduced vocational training programmes for inmates and pushed for better living conditions in correctional facilities.
Her new role will focus on modernising Ghana’s prison system, addressing prison overcrowding, and ensuring that inmates have access to rehabilitation programmes that prepare them for reintegration into society.
Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong – Chief Fire Officer, Ghana National Fire Service
As the first female Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong brings extensive fire safety expertise and leadership to her new role.
Previously serving as Deputy Chief Fire Officer in charge of Fire Safety, she led fire prevention awareness campaigns and introduced stricter fire inspection measures across businesses and residential areas.
With the rise in fire outbreaks across the country, her leadership will focus on improving fire response times, upgrading firefighting equipment, and enhancing fire safety education in communities.
Samuel Basentale Amadu – Comptroller-General, Ghana Immigration Service
Samuel Basentale Amadu is a seasoned immigration and border security expert with over two decades of experience in managing Ghana’s immigration system.
As the Deputy Comptroller-General for Border Management, he played a crucial role in tightening border security, combating human trafficking, and implementing digital immigration processes.
His appointment comes at a time when border security and immigration policies are crucial for national safety.
Under his leadership, the Ghana Immigration Service is expected to introduce advanced screening technologies, improve border surveillance, and enhance collaboration with international agencies to prevent illegal migration.
The appointment of these new security chiefs is part of President Mahama’s broader plan to strengthen Ghana’s security sector.
His administration has emphasised the need for efficient and transparent leadership in security institutions, modern security reforms to address evolving threats, and equipping security personnel with advanced tools and training.
The new appointments have been welcomed by security analysts and stakeholders, who believe that the fresh leadership will enhance professionalism, improve security operations, and restore confidence in Ghana’s security forces.
With the increasing challenges of prison overcrowding, fire outbreaks, and border security concerns, the newly appointed officers have a tough but crucial task ahead.
However, their experience, dedication, and leadership skills make them well-equipped to steer their institutions toward greater efficiency and service delivery.
