Coronavirus: China postpones 2020 football season indefinitely
China has postponed indefinitely the start of its domestic football season because of the escalation of the coronavirus.
The China Football Association, in a statement, stated the postponement of the 2020 season national football competitions at all levels.
This decision, the association said is to help the prevention and control of pneumonia epidermic of the new coronavirus infection.
It is also to protect the health of the majority of fans, media, players, coaches, games, officials, clubs and district staff.
The Chinese Super League features Ghanaian internationals Frank Acheampong (Tianjin TEDA F.C.), Emmanuel Boateng (Dalian Yifang) and Mubarak Wakaso (Jiangsu Suning).
A host of sporting events, flights, oil and stocks in China have been affected by the crisis.
With the fear of the virus spreading, a number of activities have been postponed until the virus is brought under control.

The statement goes on to add that men’s alpine skiing World Cup races in China, scheduled for 15 and 16 February in Yanqing, has also been cancelled.
The 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships, due to be held from March 13-15 in Nanjing, has also been pushed back 12 months after World Athletics sought advice from the World Health Organisation.
Formula 1 says it is “monitoring” the effects of the outbreak in China in the context of the country’s Grand Prix in Shanghai from April 17-19.
The all-electric Formula E series is also due to hold a race in Sanya, southern China, on March 21 and Formula E says it is also “closely monitoring” the situation in tandem with local authorities.
But, the China Football Association is not the only affected party, flights to China has been cancelled with oil prices and stock going down due to the outbreak.
The coronavirus has already claimed at least 170 lives.
