Fire ravages structures along Agbogba-Ritz Junction road
A devastating fire has engulfed multiple wooden and container structures along the Agbogba to Ritz Junction Road near Madina, Accra, leaving businesses and homes in ruins.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded to the emergency, battling difficult conditions to contain the blaze.
Alex King Nartey, a GNFS spokesperson, attributed the fire’s rapid spread to the structures’ highly flammable nature.
“It’s a lot of wooden and container structures placed closely together, which made it easier for the fire to spread quickly,” he explained.
At least 12 structures were partially burned, but firefighters saved over 50 buildings, preventing further destruction.
According to Alex King Nartey, one major challenge in controlling the fire was accessing locked container shops, many of which had air conditioning units and reinforced doors.
Additionally, the presence of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) poles in the area posed a significant hazard, with firefighters reportedly experiencing electric shocks during the operation.
“As it stands now, the fire is under control,” Nartey confirmed, assuring that preventive measures were in place to avoid reignition.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
