A 23-year-old Ghanaian man identified by friends as Alfred has been stabbed to death on Monday night in Saskatoon, Canada.
The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. at a business on the 3900 block of Millar Avenue.
Emergency responders arrived around 8 p.m. to find Alfred suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The suspect, a 53-year-old man, was arrested shortly after the attack near 2nd Avenue South and Spadina Crescent East.
He now faces charges of first-degree murder.
According to Maame Pokuah, a Ghanaian resident in Toronto, Alfred hailed from Kumasi-Afrancho, Ghana, and had recently moved to Canada in September 2024. He had been working alongside the suspect, described as a co-worker and friend who often gave him rides to work.
The attack, described as unprovoked, reportedly occurred during a work break. Witnesses say the suspect stabbed Alfred 17 times before fleeing the scene.
The Saskatoon Police Service has confirmed that their Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section are actively investigating the case.
The Ghanaian community in Canada has been left devastated by the loss and is calling for justice in what they describe as a senseless and heartbreaking tragedy.
